A truck fire has caused significant delays on I-495 in Montgomery County.

The Montgomery County fire department said that it had extinguished the fire and was working on containing diesel fuel spilled from the truck. No one was injured, Maryland State Police Sgt. Mark Cummings said.

The Metropolitan Area Transportation Operations Coordination Program said on Twitter that all lanes on the outer loop were initially closed at Exit 30 due to the fire, around 2 p.m. By 2:25 p.m., one lane was open at the exit, which leads to U.S. 29. Shortly after 3 p.m., all lanes had reopened, Cummings said.

MATOC said that at the point that one lane reopened, cars were backed up for about three miles. Cummings said delays were still heavy after the other three lanes opened, and the cause of the fire had not been determined.
