Update: Delays resolved on Metro’s Orange, Blue and Silver lines after unfounded report of smoke

A Metro alert said service on all three lines has returned to normal.

Trains on Metro’s Orange, Blue and Silver lines are delayed after an unfounded report of smoke at the Capitol South station, a Metro spokesman said.

Spokesman Mike Tolbert said the 6:05 p.m. report closed the station and trains were delayed while the fire department investigated. The station reopened at 6:30 p.m. after nothing was found and Tolbert said service “should be normalizing” soon.

But many riders were tweeting about extensive delays and crowded platforms. They also complained that they had not gotten any information from Metro about the cause of the delays.
