Metro launches its second full work week of part of a major repair program called SafeTrack.

The transit agency is undergoing major repair work over the next year. It is now in the second part of the program with 16 days of work on three rail lines — the Blue, Orange and Silver. Trains running between the Eastern Market and Minnesota Avenue and Benning Road stops are impacted. The work on that part is to end July 3.

So far (knock on wood) there have been no big hiccups to add to the changes in train schedules. But riders have had to deal with longer waits, more crowded platforms and trains during the work.

Some Metro riders have abandoned the rail system and taken to driving, making area roadways more congested in the morning and evening rush hours. Others have biked or ridden buses and teleworked.
