One woman died and another was injured after an early morning crash in Loudoun County.

The road was closed for several hours near the Dulles Toll Road towards the Dulles Airport/Herndon exit and there are major backups.

Kraig Troxell, a spokesman with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened around 2 a.m. He said a Jeep Wrangler had four people in it when the driver of the vehicle hit a traffic divider in the roadway on Route 28.

Two of the passengers, both of whom are women, were thrown from the jeep, he said. One of them sustained non life-threatening injuries and the other woman was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver and the other man who were in the vehicle didn’t suffer serious injuries.

The name of the woman who died was not immediately released, pending the notification of her family. Troxell said the driver is being charged with driving under the influence. His name was not immediately released at this time, as he was still being processed and booked, according to Troxell.

He said he did not know if anyone in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt at the time. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
