Air travelers should expect delays Thursday as severe storms are expected to hit along the East Coast.

All three Washington-area airports are reporting delays either locally or in connecting cities.

Bad weather struck areas in the South earlier this week, and at one point Wednesday a ground stop was issued at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, causing many travelers to spend the night sleeping on the facility’s floor.

Tornadoes hit several parts of the South earlier in the week, and severe storms are expected today for parts of the Carolinas and up through the Mid-Atlantic coast, including the Washington area.
