Part of the Rock Creek and Potomac parkways near the Kennedy Center will be closed Thursday as crews work on an expansion at the performing arts center.

From 6:30 a.m. until 3 p.m., the northbound lanes of the parkways will be closed. And from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m., all traffic along the parkway will have to travel in one lane, D.C. Police said in a Twitter message. One lane, closest to the river will remain open.

The road closures are needed, officials said, so construction crews can pour concrete at the center for an expansion project.
