Metro restores service on Orange and Silver lines, but delays remain

Updated at 8:33 a.m.

Metro said its service on the Orange and Silver lines has been restored after an earlier train had a problem with its brakes.

The train that broke down at the Clarendon stop was moved off the line about 10 minutes ago. The transit agency stopped trains from running on part of the Orange and Silver lines, causing major delays for riders.

Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said in an email that the transit agency was not able to have trains share a track because “the train was disabled in the interlocking, fouling both tracks.”

There is no Metro train service on part of the Orange and Silver lines in Virginia.

Train service is suspended between the East Falls Church and Clarendon stops. Metro said passengers might have to get off trains and should expect delays in both directions.

And those problems are also causing delays on the Blue Line.
