Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said in an email that the transit agency was not able to have trains share a track because “the train was disabled in the interlocking, fouling both tracks.”

There is no Metro train service on part of the Orange and Silver lines in Virginia.
Train service is suspended between the East Falls Church and Clarendon stops. Metro said passengers might have to get off trains and should expect delays in both directions.

Riders on two Metro rail lines should expect delays in Wednesday morning’s commute.
Trains on the Orange and Silver lines are sharing a track after a train broke down at the Ballston stop. The trains are single-tracking between the East Falls Church and Ballston stops.
Riders should expect delays in both directions of the line.
