Will Kobe Bryant play in the Los Angeles Lakers’ opener tonight or won’t he?

On Facebook, Bryant offered his own rather opaque take on whether the foot injury he suffered Oct. 21 has healed enough to allow him to play against the Dallas Mavericks:

Getting stronger. Not sure what it means for [Tuesday] night just yet but it’s much better than it was a week ago when I could barely walk. I hate not practicing. It drives me crazy! The training staff has been great. Mr. Laker, Gary Vitti, and the great Judy Seto (the first female trainer in the NBA) have been working their magic.

If he hates not practicing, imagine how he feels about not playing — and in a season-opener with glittering new teammates, to boot. Whether Bryant or Jodie Meeks joins Dwight Howard and Steve Nash, making their Lakers debuts, is a game-time decision, but why would anyone think Bryant won’t be a go?
