Bobby Petrino, the Arkansas football coach who was fired last spring when reports surfaced after a motorcycle crash that he’d hired his mistress in the athletic department, will be named head coach at Western Kentucky, ESPN reported.

Petrino, 51, was 34-17 in four seasons in Arkansas before his indiscretions came to light post-crash. He was in the midst of a seven-year contract with an average salary of $3.53 million a year. Petrino initially said he had spent April 1 with his wife at a lake, but he and Jessica Dorrell were involved in a motorcycle crash in which he suffered broken ribs, a cracked vertebra and facial abrasions. Although in describing the crash, he said that the sun had caused him to lose control of he bike, he did not mention his passenger.

Dorrell’s presence came to light in the state police’s accident report. Petrino was placed on leave and eventually fired.

“I love football. I love coaching,” Petrino said after his firing by the Razorbacks. “I of course hope I can find my way back to the profession I love. In the meantime, I will do everything I can to heal the wounds I have created.”

An announcement at Western Kentucky could come as early as this afternoon.

Petrino became head coach of the Razorbacks after a disastrous run with the Atlanta Falcons, who fired him 13 games into the 2007 season.
