Instead of hitting wide receivers, Cam Newton is hitting the books.

The Carolina Panthers quarterback has enrolled in classes at Auburn, where he won a Heisman Trophy playing for the football team in 2010. The Tigers’ new head coach broke the news on Twitter:

Newton is trying to keep a low profile and, Auburn spokesman Kirk Sampson said, “wants to focus on school and be a normal student.”

Good luck with that. Photos that purport to show Newton in classrooms are popping up all over Twitter. It can’t be easy for a guy whose statue stands outside the football stadium and who led his team to a national championship (and drew an NCAA investigation).
