Rob Ryan expected to land with Saints, report says

After a false start in St. Louis, Rob Ryan may be on the verge of finding a job in the NFL.

The New Orleans Saints, ESPN reports, are close to hiring him as defensive coordinator, replacing Steve Spagnuolo. The timetable is a little different from the one Ryan envisioned when he was fired Jan. 9. At that time, he predicted he’d have another job “in, like, five minutes.” He apparently had one by Jan. 24, when he began attending defensive meetings with the Rams, but that situation quickly deteriorated, reportedly over Ryan’s preference for switching to a 3-4 defense.

Ryan’s hiring may not be a done deal, though. Nola.com reports that the Saints will interview University of Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham on Thursday, then interview Ryan on Friday.
