Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn are, officially, a couple. The golfer and the Olympic skier went public with their long-rumored relationship today, posting four photos and an announcement to their combined audience of over six million on Facebook and Twitter.

“This season has been great so far and I’m happy with my wins at Torrey and Doral,” Woods announced on Facebook. “Something nice that’s happened off the course was meeting Lindsey Vonn. Lindsey and I have been friends for some time, but over the last few months we have become very close and are now dating. We thank you for your support and for respecting our privacy. We want to continue our relationship, privately, as an ordinary couple and continue to compete as athletes.”

Vonn posted her statement on Facebook several hours later:

“I guess it wasn’t a well-kept secret but yes, I am dating Tiger Woods. Our relationship evolved from a friendship into something more over these past few months and it has made me very happy. I don’t plan on addressing this further as I would like to keep that part of my life between us, my family and close friends. Thank you for understanding and your continued support! xo LV”

Rumors have flown about the two athletes since the first of the year, with reports that Woods had sent his private jet for Vonn, who was divorced from her husband earlier this year, after she suffered a devastating knee injury in early February in Austria. Vonn, 28, presently is recovering from reconstructive knee surgery and hopes to be able to ski in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Shortly after her surgery, US Weekly reported that her brother had been giving ski lessons to Woods’s daughter Sam, 5, and son Charlie, 4.

Woods, 37, and Elin Nordegren were divorced — you might have read something about that — in 2010 after Woods crashed his SUV in a Thanksgiving 2009 fight over his multiple affairs.

Like his love life, his golf game of late has shown signs of rebounding and, with a victory in this week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, he could regain the No. 1 ranking in the world. Woods won the WGC last weekend at Doral, making 100 putts over 72 holes and dominating play.

Woods will try to win his fifth Masters in three weeks.
