Out with Ed Reed, in with Elvis Dumervil?

The Baltimore Ravens lost Reed, their free-agent safety, to the Houston Texans, but have made an offer to Dumervil, the Denver Broncos’ defensive end who became a free agent because of a fax snafu.

It was a bittersweet end for Reed in Baltimore, where his now-former teammates lamented the departure of yet another player from their championship team.

“In Baltimore, it’s about raising men,” Reed said after signing a three-year, $15-million deal in Houston. “They taught me about being a player and being a man. They also taught me about business.”

Reed leaves the Ravens’ defense now — like Ray Lewis (retirement to ESPN), Bernard Pollard (to Tennessee), Paul Kruger (to Cleveland), Cary Williams (to Philadelphia) and Danell Ellerbee (to Miami).

The Ravens, according to the Baltimore Sun, contacted Dumervil’s agent as soon as he became available, but he has not yet scheduled a visit to Baltimore. Dumervil is considering the Ravens’ offer, which according to the Denver Post, is for slightly more money in the early part of the contract.
