Theirs is one of the more unusual mutual admiration societies, but something drew the star college forward and the brave little girl battling neuroblastoma to one another.

Lacey Holsworth picked Michigan State forward Adreiane Payne and and another player to work out with when Payne and the Spartans visited the hospital in which she was having treatment.

And neither of them forgot the time they spent together; they’ve been in each other’s corner ever since. CBS told the story of their sweet relationship before Michigan State and Memphis tipped off this afternoon. Lacey has a wall of Payne, filled with photos of the forward and says, “My favorite thing that Adreian’s ever given me is a hug.” Payne calls the little girl his “princess.”
