Louisville sitting pretty against Colorado State after first-half buzzer-beater

Colorado State put an early scare into Louisville, the odds-on favorites to win this NCAA tournament.

But Coach Rick Pitino’s Cardinals, behind 10 forced turnovers and 18 points from Russ Smith — some know him as “Russdiculous” — opened up a 45-31 lead by halftime, all the more impressive given that Colorado State actually shot 55.6 percent from the field. Still, Louisville looks like a safe bet to advance to the Sweet Sixteen, especially given Pitino’s pedigree in such situations.

Pitino is 10-3 in the round of 32, for what that’s worth.

The ever-growing Montrezl Harrell sent Louisville into the break with this buzzer-beating jumper from the corner off an inbounds play. It went to video review, and the referees ruled that Harrell barely got the shot off.
