Jon Hamm to host the ESPYs

And now…presenting the best reason ever to watch the ESPYs: they’ll be hosted this year by Jon Hamm, noted sports aficionado, certified fan of all things St. Louis sports-related and “Mad Men” star.

The announcement wasn’t so much made as slipped out during Hamm’s appearance on “Live with Kelly and Michael” when Michael Strahan said: “You’re a big sports fan. So what I’m really excited about is that you’re hosting the ESPYs this year.”

Hamm replied: “I am.”

Roughly coincidentally, ESPN announced the news itsownself:

The show is live at 9 p.m. July 17 on, duh, ESPN/ESPNHD.

“I’m very excited to be hosting the ESPYS,” Hamm said in a statement provided by the network. “As a longtime sports fan and a marginally successful high school athlete I feel my skill-set jibes well with a host’s duties. I now have to figure out what cleats to wear with a tuxedo.”

If he wears his sweat-stained, beaten-up Blues cap, we can all die happy.
