A warrant was issued Thursday for the arrest of Chad Johnson, the former NFL wide receiver, for violating the terms of his probation in connection with a domestic-violence incident involving his ex-wife last year.
Officials at the Broward County District Attorney’s office said they issued the warrant May 7 because Johnson, formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, failed to report for probation check-ins in February and March. He also failed to show proof of enrollment in and completion of the Batterers Intervention Program, the Broward sheriff’s office said.
Johnson’s attorney, Adam Swickle, was on vacation Thursday and unavailable for comment, according to the Miami Herald.
The incident involving Johnson’s ex-wife, Evelyn Lozada occurred last August in Miami and began when Lozada, star of “Basketball Wives,” found a receipt for condoms in the couple’s SmartCar. They argued and she suffered a cut to the head after she allegedly was headed-butted by Johnson, whom she had married July 4. He pleaded no contest and was placed on probation for one year.
The couple, whose VH1 reality show “Ev & Ocho” was called off after the incident, was divorced in September. Johnson, who did not play in the 2012 season, was cut by the Miami Dolphins shortly after he was released from jail last August.
