Vinny Del Negro will not be returning for another season as coach of the Los Angeles Clippers.
The team chose to let Del Negro’s contract expire after the Clippers were ushered out in the first round of the NBA playoffs by the Memphis Grizzlies. He was hired in the summer of 2010 and took the Clippers to their first division title with a 56-26 record. Overall, the Clippers were 210-184 under Del Negro.
Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the news, adding that Chris Paul, who is about to become a free agent, was not in Del Negro’s corner.
Naturally, any NBA job vacancy is going to prompt mention of Phil Jackson and, unlike Cleveland or Toronto or Brooklyn, he actually lives in L.A.
To repeat, sources have indicated it’d be “too creepy” for Clips to hire Phil Jackson, even tho there is a lot of respect for him
