The NBA’s Coach of the Year is looking for a job.
George Karl has been fired by the Denver Nuggets, according to a report by Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The Nuggets had declined the chance to offer Karl, in the last year of his contract, an extension.
Under Karl, the Nuggets finished 57-25, third in the Western Conference. They were eliminated by the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs.
There’d already been rumblings about where Karl, 62, might coach next. Earlier this week, ESPN Los Angeles reported that the Clippers had begun talks with Karl after parting company with Vinny Del Negro last month.
Presumably, Chris Paul would approve.
In a text message, Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson said, “All of this is crazy and unexpected, don’t know what to say.”
