Sergio Garcia said all the verbal swatting with Tiger Woods was over and he was ready to focus on golf at the U.S. Open this week.

That doesn’t mean he didn’t hear about the “fried chicken” remark he aimed at Woods as the first round began. Fans weren’t forgetting it and, on the tiny Merion Golf Club course, they were very close to him.

Garcia was all over the course, putting together a truly remarkable round with two bogeys, a double- and a quadruple-bogey (a snowman in June!) over his first eight holes (starting on the back nine). Then he made the turn and went birdie-eagle on his first two holes on the front nine.
