Chad Johnson is being released from jail today after serving seven days of a 30-day sentence for disrespecting the court by slapping his attorney on the fanny during a hearing last week.

Broward County Circuit Judge Kathleen McHugh accepted Johnson’s apology Monday and reduced his jail term, according to the Associated Press. Johnson, formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, was in court for a plea bargain stemming from a probation violation related to his guilty plea over a domestic incident involving his then-wife, Evelyn Lozada.

“I just wanted to apologize for disrespecting the court last time,” Johnson, his hands shackled, said in court (via the Miami Herald). “I apologize. I did have time to reflect on the mistakes I made in this courtroom.”

McHugh, who had been criticized for imposing a 30-day sentence, pointed out that Johnson had put his arm around a female prosecutor’s shoulders. Twice, the prosecutor told him not to touch her. McHugh also noted that, in the domestic incident, he head-butted Lozada, who suffered a three-inch cut.

Terrell Owens, his former co-star on “The T.Ocho Show,” visited him over the weekend.

Johnson, 35, was cut by the Miami Dolphins shortly after the incident last summer.
