Wimbledon 2013: Maria Kirilenko upset by Laura Robson

Maria Kirilenko, a quarterfinalist a year ago, was bounced from Wimbledon in a first-round upset Tuesday.

Laura Robson, the No. 1-ranked English player and a clear All-England Club favorite, beat the 10th-seeded Kirilenko 6-3, 6-4, with Kirilenko’s fiancee, Alex Ovechkin, looking on. Robson, 19, is ranked 37th in the world, Kirilenko 10th.

At least Ovechkin had a few moments to bond with Rory McIlroy, whose girlfriend is the ninth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki. She won her first-round match Monday.
