Kevin Durant, it turns out, is more than just a WNBA fan and friend of Minnesota Lynx guard Monica Wright.
He’s also her fiance.
Wright, the No. 2 pick out of Virginia in the 2010 WNBA draft, confirmed the engagement (via the Minneapolis Star-Tribune’s Kent Youngblood) after Minnesota’s game Sunday. Hollywood Life reported that Durant proposed Saturday and MediaTakeOut.com has photos of Wright wearing the ring. Both are 24 and became friends at the McDonald’s High School All-American Game in 2006.
The happy news came as something of a surprise — although it’s nowhere as big a jolt as the wedding of Kerry Washington and Nnamdi Asomugha, which only came to light last week. Durant has often attended Wright’s games, although he’s always downplayed the reason for his attendance.
“I like women’s basketball,” Durant said recently (via CBS Sports). “I come to see all of them.”
He did kind of give it away almost two years ago, with a tweet USA Today dug up.
Or maybe I need a basketball playing girlfriend…hmmm lol…monica wright where r u(love n basketball)
