NBA adds Heat-Knicks to Super Bowl weekend in New York

Know what the Super Bowl needs?

A game between two of the NBA’s marquee teams in the host city the night before the big game, that’s what. And that’s just what New York will get when the Knicks host the Miami Heat in Madison Square Garden on Feb. 1, the eve of Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium in North New Jersey.

That may not be the extent of the hoopla, either,. A college doubleheader preceding the Heat-Knicks game, reports, is in the works and would feature Michigan State vs. Georgetown and St. John’s vs. Marquette.

All that great planning might not survive, though, if there’s, say, a blizzard. This being New York-New Jersey, there’s always that chance and, if it materializes, the league says it would consider moving the Super Bowl to Saturday or Monday.
