A pro-marijuana group chose a prime spot for a billboard urging the NFL to allow players to smoke grass. It’s right outside the stadium in which the NFL season opener between the Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos will be played tonight.

On the billboard, which was unveiled outside Sports Authority Field at Mile High (hmmmmm….) on Wednesday, the group argues that a “safer choice” to alcohol “is now here.”

The may be legal in Colorado, but it’s still a banned substance in the NFL.

“For years, the NFL has been punishing players for using marijuana despite the fact that it is far less harmful than alcohol, a substance widely embraced by the league,” the Marijuana Policy Project said in a statement on its website. “The league would never punish a player simply for having a couple beers, so why does it penalize them for using a substance that is less toxic, less addictive, and less likely to contribute to violence.”

Don’t expect to see the billboard on tonight’s nationally televised opener.
