Update: Johnson jokes, shares photos

Arizona Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson is recovering from surgery to reattach the top of his left middle finger, which was severed in the loss to the New Orleans Saints.

That’s right. The tip of his finger somehow became unattached during a routine tackle on Darren Sproles on a punt return.

No one was more surprised to discover this than Johnson, according to the Arizona Republic’s Kent Somers, when he took off his glove, looked in it and saw blood. Johnson tweeted that he lost “top portion of [his finger]. Had exposed bone and skin shaved down yesterday and stitched up. Prob most painful injury I’ve had.”

Johnson is being monitored for signs of infection.
