The Atlanta Falcons’ loss to the New York Jets on Monday night may carry a steep price.

Wide receiver Julio Jones may have suffered a season-ending foot injury in the loss to the New York Jets, Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reports. The Falcons fell to 1-4 with a 30-28 loss and trail the New Orleans Saints by four games in the NFC South.

Jones is second in the NFL in receiving yards and has accounted for 35 percent of Atlanta’s passing game with 580 yards (on 41 catches). Glazer reports that he is expected to get a second opinion on the injury Wednesday in Charlotte.

Coach Mike Smith told reporters that it’s premature to say that Jones’s season is over, but admitted that the first diagnosis wasn’t positive.
