Election 2013: Chris Christie endorsed by Shaq O’Neal (video)

A certified Jersey guy has stepped up and endorsed Chris Christie in his bid for re-election to a second term as governor of the Garden State.

Shaquille O’Neal, who grew up near Newark, filmed a 90-second ad in which he says of Christie, “he’s a good man. Excuse me, he’s a great man.”

This isn’t the first time Shaq has spoken up for a politician. He endorsed President Obama’s re-election in 2012 and Carmen Trutanich in the Los Angeles district attorney’s race. As the New York Daily News points out, he’s 1-for-2 at the endorsement game, which is “worse than his career 52.7 percent mark from the free throw line.”

After spending most of her career in traditional print sports journalism, Cindy began blogging and tweeting, first as NFL/Redskins editor, and, since August 2010, at The Early Lead. She also is the social media editor for Sports.
