Lamar Odom is getting closer to a return to the NBA, with Los Angeles Clippers Coach Doc Rivers confirming that team representatives had met with the free agent on Friday.
Rivers characterized the conversation with Odom, who played with the team last year, as “good” to ESPN, but added that “it didn’t go much further than that.”
Rivers, who coached the Boston Celtics last season, said he just wanted “to see him physically and see how he was doing.” Reports about drug use, a DUI incident and problems in his marriage to Khloe Kardashian have dominated headlines about him since last summer, but last week reports surfaced that he would join either the Clippers or the Lakers.
“I’ve always had interest in him. I’ve always liked him,” Rivers told ESPN. “The teams he’s played on and the coaches who have coached him have always liked him, but honestly it really didn’t go much further than that.”
ESPN.com reported that Odom has been working out a month, hoping to return in the second half of the season. Both US Weekly and People reported that he would re-sign with the team.
