Jimmie Johnson won his sixth Sprint Cup championship — his sixth — and afterward had a few words for Donovan McNabb and Michael Jordan.

He addressed a comment by McNabb, the former NFL quarterback who had stirred up a storm by saying that race-car drivers aren’t athletes.

“Yes, I am an athlete, and so is every other driver in one of these race cars,” Johnson said (via USA Today). “Even Tony Stewart.”

Bada bing.

Johnson had maintained silence on the matter after McNabb, now a Fox Sports analyst, said, “Do I think he’s an athlete? Absolutely not.”

And he had a message s for MJ, who’d teased him about being one ring behind when it comes to championships.

“I can’t wait to send him a text,” Johnson said, “and say, ‘Hey, buddy, I’ve caught up.'”
