Deion Sanders ready to suit up for Pro Bowl, NFL won’t let him

Maybe this is just what the Pro Bowl needs: more Deion Sanders.

The Hall of Fame defensive back, who will select one roster as the game switches to a fantasy-football kind of draft, threatened to suit up himself Monday before wiser heads prevailed and put an end to what may have been (ya think?) a publicity stunt.

Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice, who will select the other roster, took the bait. Kind of.

It was fun while it lasted. Later Monday, a league spokesman told Pro Football Talk that Sanders, 46, and Rice, 51, would be “spending the full week with their clubs beyond the draft, attending practices, on the sidelines for gameday.” Sanders and Rice, the honorary alumni captains, will pick players in a Jan. 22 prime time special, with the game on Jan. 26.
