Duke-UNC game to go on despite winter storm

A devastating winter storm may be sweeping the Southeast, but the game between No. 8 Duke and North Carolina is a go.

If teams and two game officials can get to the site of a game, ACC policy mandates that it take place and it’s on the docket for 9:10 p.m. EST (on ESPN) — just when the storm is expected to be at its height. Duke and UNC have canceled classes and the Blue Devils had planned to leave early for the game, which is about eight miles away at Chapel Hill’s Smith Center.

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory wasn’t planning to use his tickets. “Stay smart,” he said in a press conference Wednesday morning. “Don’t put your stupid hat on.”

That means staying home and hoping the power stays long enough for the game.
