Opening Day 2014: What to watch for on the first full day of games

The weather in the Northeastern United States isn’t terribly cooperative, but who cares? It’s the first real day of the 2014 baseball season (despite the San Diego Padres’ 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday night). Here’s a quick rundown of the day’s games with pitching matchups:

1:05 p.m.: Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh Pirates – Jeff Samardzija (8-14, 4.33 ERA) vs. Francisco Liriano (16-8, 3.02 ERA)

1:08: Kansas City Royals at Detroit Tigers – James Shields (13-9, 3.15 ERA) vs. Justin Verlander (13-12, 3.46 ERA)

1:10: Washington Nationals at New York Mets – Stephen Strasburg (8-9, 3.00 ERA) vs. Dillon Gee (12-11, 3.62 ERA)

2:05: Philadelphia Phillies at Texas Rangers – Cliff Lee (14-8, 2.87 ERA) vs. Tanner Scheppers (6-2, 1.88 ERA)

2:10: Atlanta Braves at Milwaukee Brewers – Julio Teheran (14-8, 3.20 ERA) vs. Yovani Gallardo (12-10, 4.18 ERA)

3:05: Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles – Jon Lester (15-8, 3.75 ERA) vs. Chris Tillman (16-7, 3.71 ERA)

4:10: Minnesota Twins at Chicago White Sox – Ricky Nolasco (13-11, 3.70 ERA) vs. Chris Sale (11-14, 3.07 ERA)

4:10: St. Louis Cardinals at Cincinnati Reds – Adam Wainwright (19-9, 2.94 ERA) vs. Johnny Cueto (5-2, 2.82 ERA)

4:10: Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays – R.A. Dickey (14-13, 4.21 ERA) vs. David Price (10-8, 3.33 ERA)

7:05: Colorado Rockies at Miami Marlins – Jorge De La Rosa (16-6, 3.49 ERA) vs. Jose Fernandez (12-6, 2.19 ERA)

9:40: San Francisco Giants at Arizona Diamondbacks – Madison Bumgarner (13-9, 2.77 ERA) vs. Brandon McCarthy (5-11, 4.53 ERA)

10:05: Cleveland Indians at Oakland Athletics – Justin Masterson (14-10, 3.45 ERA) vs. Sonny Gray (5-3, 2.67 ERA)

10:05: Seattle Mariners at Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim – Felix Hernandez (12-10, 3.04 ERA) vs. Jered Weaver (11-8, 3.27 ERA)
