Why Allen Iverson will be rooting for UConn against Kentucky

Georgetown and Connecticut were fierce rivals back in the great days of the Big East, but that didn’t prevent Allen Iverson from wishing the Huskies and their coach well in the NCAA tournament championship game.

That’s because the Huskies, who will play Kentucky for the title Monday night, are coached by Kevin Ollie. Although Iverson played for the Hoyas and remains true to them, he announced on Instagram that he’d make an exception to root for Ollie, his teammate when the Philadelphia 76ers advanced to the NBA Finals in 2001. He wrote on the post:

“Congratulations K.O. this couldn’t happen to a better person. I’m very excited about you being in the National Championship game. I never thought I could pull for UConn, but I will this year because you’re there. Good luck and God bless you … #TheAnswer”
