It’s not every day that your rivals feel like part of the team. That’s because not every day does someone so injured that they can’t even walk manage to knock out a home run during a college softball game. But that’s exactly what happened when two Tampa Bay-area universities met last weekend and, reportedly, it made people tear up in the stands.
Kara Oberer of Eckerd College stepped up to bat with an injury at the bottom of the ninth, New York Daily News reports. She smacked the ball around 200-plus feet for a homer. The one problem: She couldn’t run the bases.
That’s when a couple of women on the opposing team from Florida Southern, including pitcher Chelsea Oglevie, decided to help. Florida Southern didn’t win the game, but they win at life.
