There was a great debate about it during the regular season, but the final result wasn’t close.

Kevin Durant is the NBA MVP, with LeBron James second. The Oklahoma City Thunder star was chosen first on all but five of the 125 ballots cast, ending James’s streak at two in a row. The award is Durant’s first; James has won four of the last five MVPs.

Durant led the league in scoring with a 32-point average and is the first to win the scoring title and MVP award in the same season since Allen Iverson in 2000-01.

On Monday, with the award a fait accompli for Durant, James told reporters: “Much respect to him and he deserves it. He had a big-time MVP season.”
