For Jerry Jones, Johnny Manziel ‘is Elvis’

It was the most delicious possibility presented by the first round of the NFL draft. Would Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones be able to resist the impulse to draft Johnny Football, who was still  available when the ‘Boys picked?

He would and he did. Jones chose not to take Johnny Manziel because, it turns out, he has no interest in being Col. Tom Parker to Manziel’s Elvis. And, because he has Tony Romo, he was able to pass up a quarterback with buzzy, star quality.

Jones acknowledged that “he’s Elvis Presley,” when he was asked about Manziel. The Cowboys, instead, went with an offensive lineman, Zack Martin, with the No. 16 pick.

And if Manziel is Elvis, who’s Romo?

“George Strait,” Jones grinned.
