Ah, the thrill of victory, the agony of celebrating that victory prematurely.

A Spanish cyclist found out about both Saturday in the seventh stage of the Tour de California. Eloy Teruel was leading and the finish line was just up ahead. The problem is that there was one more lap to go. The public-address announcer kept saying “no” and fans tried to alert him, but Teruel either couldn’t hear or his excitement kept him from comprehending and the other cyclists overtake him. Slovakia’s Peter Sagan went on to win the stage.

Afterward, he tweeted: “I wanted to win, lucky nobody saw it hahaha.”
