Hafthor Julius Bjornsson is 6 feet 9 and weighs 420 pounds, so he was an apt choice to play Gregor Clegane, aka The Mountain, on “Game of Thrones” this season. His trial-by-combat battle with Oberyn Martell during Sunday’s episode was the latest highlight on a show that produces them on a near-weekly basis.

Anyway, Bjornsson is a former professional basketball player in Iceland, per his Wikipedia page, and also is a regular Strongman competitor. Here’s a video of him deadlifting 994 pounds.

After spending the first 17 years of his Post career writing and editing, Matt and the printed paper had an amicable divorce in 2014. He's now blogging and editing for the Early Lead and the Post's other Web-based products.
