College of Charleston Coach Doug Wojcik being investigated for verbal abuse

More than a year after Rutgers men’s basketball coach Mike Rice was fired after video surfaced of him physically and verbally abusing his players during practice, another coach is being investigated because of similar claims.

Per the Post and Courier:

College of Charleston basketball coach Doug Wojcik is expected to be placed on probation this summer and undergo counseling for alleged verbal abuse of his players, The Post and Courier has learned.

A source inside the school’s athletic department confirmed that Wojcik has been under investigation for several weeks after allegations of verbal abuse came to the attention of the school’s administration.

Wojcik is expected to be put on probation for the month of August and undergo two weeks of counseling, the source said.

The source said the school completed its investigation last week and issued a lengthy report on the allegations. Current players met with athletic department officials on Monday to discuss Wojcik’s behavior, the source said.

Wojcik, who was David Robinson’s point guard at Navy, is 38-29 in two seasons at College of Charleston following a seven-season stint at Tulsa, which fired him in 2012 despite six consecutive winning seasons, citing a decline in season ticket sales.
