Flyers’ Giroux spends night in jail for grabbing a cop’s buttocks

Flyers captain Claude Giroux, like many NHL stars, is from Canada. He resides in Ottawa, and like (one presumes) many Ottawans spent Tuesday celebrating Canada Day. Unlike many NHL stars or Ottawans, to our knowledge at least, Giroux wound up spending Canada Night in the municipal penalty box.

Giroux’s crime? Grabbing a policeman who was patrolling the bar Giroux was in. That doesn’t sound like a great idea to begin with, but where Giroux grabbed the cop is undoubtedly what escalated his act from silly to you’re-going-to-have-to-come-with-us.

From the Ottawa Sun:

Officers were inside the bar as part of routine walk-throughs, when one officer had his butt grabbed by a patron as he walked by.

The officer turned around and told the patron not to behave like that, but he was grabbed again. At that point, the patron was taken outside of the bar to be spoken to, and was arrested soon after.

The officers involved did not initially recognize Giroux.

Ottawa Police declined to comment unless charges are laid, but several sources confirmed to the Sun Giroux spent the night in jail.

The police also later released their media call report which confirmed Giroux has been arrested and that the cops called the Flyers.

He was released Wednesday morning without any charges being laid.

Lotsa jokes to be made here, and I’m just going to let our dear readers imagine what they must be.
