Update: Yankees Manager Joe Girardi told reporters Wednesday night that Masahiro Tanaka will be placed on a 15-day disabled list with elbow inflammation.

Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka is flying from Cleveland back to New York to have an MRI on his pitching arm, according to reports.

New York Post’s George A. King III first broke the news.

Tanaka had the worst start of the season Tuesday, when he allowed 10 hits and five runs over 6.2 innings in a 5-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians.

CBSSports.com Jon Heyman says Tanaka mentioned some discomfort to the team after the loss.

The 25-year-old started the season 11-1 with a 1.99 ERA, but is 1-3 with a 4.25 ERA in his last four starts, three of which have been losses.

His next start is scheduled to be on Sunday night in Baltimore.
