Alabama and Southern California will help kick off the 2016 season when they meet on Sept. 3 at AT&T Stadium in Irving, Tex.

The two powerhouse programs haven’t met since the 1985 Aloha Bowl, a 24-3 Alabama victory. They last met in the regular season on Sept. 23, 1978, when the seventh-ranked Trojans upset the No. 1 Crimson Tide, 24-14, in Birmingham (the two teams would go on to split the national championship, with Alabama No. 1 in the AP poll and USC No. 1 in the UPI coaches’ poll).

Sept. 3, 2016, will be a rather huge day in college football, assuming the schedule remains the same.

Alabama also will open the 2015 season at the JerryDome against Wisconsin.
