Comic Sans. It was always going to be written in Comic Sans.
So it wasn’t a full-page newspaper ad, but the message remained the same. The billboard, which can be seen below, simply states: ‘You’re welcome, LeBron. Love, Miami,’ along with a photo of the two rings he won in Miami.
In the past week, Le Batard and his co-hosts have been discussing the best approach for injecting a bit of Miami humor into LeBron’s Akron homecoming this Friday. On the last show I tuned in to, LeBatard discussed the various insurance costs for a banner-pulling plane.
So far, there are just billboards, but occasional co-host and Miami Herald columnist Greg Cote alluded to other possibilities in a blog post:
“Show producer Mike Ryan will be in Akron on Friday to give the show a live presence. There are rumors of an additional tier of the ad-assault that remains top secret, perhaps to be revealed on Friday. I pledged to not share more than I have at this time so that LeBron’s “people” would not have enough advance notice or information to crush the plan.”
Update: Cote reported that Le Batard gave him the following explanation via text: “It’s just fun anarchy. All meant in fun — which, of course, will turn into Cleveland people getting filled with rage, poison and irrational hostility and want to use those billboards as a guillotine. Sports are so great, the more irrational the better. This is a publicity stunt disguised as a movement. Please don’t tell anyone there is no actual movement.”
