The opportunity to join LeBron James on a team that is being built to win an NBA championship was too much for Shawn Marion.
Marion told the Cavs this weekend, ESPN reported, that he would agree to leave Dallas for a minimum deal in order to join the Cavs. In the process, he’ll pass up a heightened pursuit by the Indiana Pacers, who are trying to compensate for the loss of Paul George for the entire season.
“What I came away with,” Pacers President Larry Bird said last week, “was he’s undecided with where he wants to play and what he wants to do. But he does want to play for a contender.”
For Marion, 36, that is worth more than the $1.4 million the Cavs can offer.
