“You’re gonna get wrecked, son,” Esiason said. “You know, the NFL is about as unforgiving a place as there is on God’s green earth. It is a men’s place. It is for people that have a very, very strong constitution.
I like to imagine Esiason made these comments while waving his index finger with a stern “don’t you talk to me with that tone, young man” expression.
“Whether or not you can handle it is going to be determined by your maturity level. And right now, this kid is a baby.”
You hear, that Manziel? You’re an infant! Esiason also wants Manziel on clipboard duty come week one.
“I’m telling you, those linebackers for the Pittsburgh Steelers are just praying to God that (Manziel) plays in week one. And if I were Mike Pettine, I would have to have my head examined to put that kid on the field. He is not even close to being ready.”
Even Browns coach Mike Pettine was caught in the cross-fire. Esiason then saved his best for last.
“If he opened as the starting quarterback in Pittsburgh in week one, he would get his a– kicked. And his a– would be driven into the ground. Because I’m telling you, other teams hate this guy. Hate him.”
For pure entertainment alone, part of me is hoping Manziel winds up playing in week one, just to hear Esiason’s reaction.
