John Calipari calls Mike Francesa’s radio show to defend John Calipari

A funny thing happened after Mike Francesa interviewed Kentucky Coach John Calipari on his WFAN radio show, and, afterward, opined that Calipari isn’t a “classic” Xs and Os coach.

Francesa’s assertion that Calipari is a master at recruiting and motivating players caused a phone line to light up and, suddenly, “John from Kentucky” was on the air for a spirited debate.

“Are you saying I can’t coach? Why didn’t you say that while I was sitting next to you?” Calipari said with a laugh.

He went on. “You said, ‘he’s not not too good.’ That’s basically saying I can’t coach. … You know what they call me? The magician. ‘Cal the magician.’”

A little later, Calipari got in the last word:
