The first day of the U.S. Open is proving to be quite eventful, especially the match between Venus Williams and Japan’s Kimiko Date-Krumm. An upset appeared possible after Date-Krumm took the first set 6-2, but midway through the second set at Flushing Meadows, things started to bug her. Or more apropos, a bug began to attack her.

But before anyone starts thinking the bee was working for Williams, take a look at this photo.

Indeed, the bee was an equal opportunity pest, physically and psychologically disrupting both sides’ games. Luckily, the little guy was eventually caught and the match was able to resume.

Williams won the second and third sets 6-2 and 6-3 to win the match. She’ll move on to Round 2, which probably, um, stings a little for Date-Krumm…
