It’s been almost a month since Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal played through appendicitis at the Shanghai Masters. It did not go well. He was ousted in the second round by fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez, probably because he PLAYED THROUGH APPENDICITIS. Nadal continued the strategy at the Swiss Indoors ATP tennis tournament, which led him to drop from the world’s second-seeded player to its third.
Well, as of Monday, Nadal’s pesky appendix will not longer be a problem. The tennis star underwent a laparoscopic appendectomy at the TEKNON Medical Center in Barcelona, according to USA Today and the Associated Press, which added the world’s No. 3 will spend the next two days in the hospital recovering.
And even though the surgery will make him unable to compete at next week’s ATP finals in London, Nadal is putting on a happy face for his fans. He even posted a picture of himself on Facebook before being wheeled into the operating room on Monday.
The surgery went well, according to Dr. Angel Ruiz Cotorro Cadena, who said Nadal should be back to training (lightly) in about three weeks and at full strength in a month. Here’s the original audio in Spanish uploaded by Spain’s Mallorca.
