Katy Perry is set to be the star of the halftime show at Super Bowl XLIX, and she wasted no time entertaining the crowd during a press conference in Phoenix, site of the game, on Thursday. Perry dropped one-liners, as well as hints about which surprise guest will join her onstage.
The singer let her fans know that she wouldn’t be wearing just any old outfit for the occasion.
And she did not disappoint, donning a two-piece ensemble that paid homage to the most important piece of equipment in America’s favorite televised sport.
Of course, footballs have kinda sorta been in the news of late, but surely Perry wouldn’t make a DeflateGate joke, would she? She would:
Before that, Perry was asked if, as “a single girl,” she may be eyeing anyone in particular while she’s at the event. That had the “Roar” singer going into Beast Mode:
Well played, Katy, well played. Perry also teased the crowd about a surprise guest at halftime, in addition to previously announced Lenny Kravitz (can I make a Super Bowl prop bet on Kravitz doing “American Woman”? That’s the biggest lock of the game).
Perry said that the mystery performer “will be a throwback of sorts,” and that “jaws will drop and faces will melt.” As if that were not enough, Perry promised to be “the only person in Super Bowl halftime history that will ever bring both a lion and sharks to the show.”
As for a rooting interest, the singer said that she’ll be pulling for the Seahawks because of a friendship with Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson.
Update: It would seem that Perry’s surprise guest won’t be that much of a jaw-dropper.
